BETHEL TWP., Pa. – A possible mental health crisis led to police temporarily shutting down roads in Bethel Township, Berks County, on Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The Bethel Township Police Department said it was alerted to an address on Bennett Street where a male was reported to be having a mental health crisis and possibly committed a criminal act. Police said officers made sure the male remained in the home and posed no threat to the public until the Berks County Emergency Response Team arrived on scene.
During that time, the police department asked the public to steer clear of Bennett Street, Bashore Street and Swope Road.
The male was taken into custody shortly after 6 p.m., police said, and all roadways reopened Monday night.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
