It’s been two years since we last saw Kim Ji Won grace the small screen! Her scene-stealing performance as the vivacious chaebol heiress, Hong Haein, in Queen of Tears won hearts worldwide, and fans are eagerly waiting for her next project. In some great news, the Hallyu actress will make her K-drama comeback in Doctor X, with its premiere set to take place very, very soon…
Doctor X release date: Kim Ji Won returns with a new K-drama after Queen of Tears
Kim Ji Won will next be seen in Doctor X, a new SBS drama based on the hit Japanese drama of the same name, which premieres on October 9, 2026. Joining Ji Won in the main cast are Lee Jung Eun (Parasite), Son Hyun Joo (The WONDERfools) and Kim Woo Seok (Military Prosecutor Doberman). The supporting ensemble features Lee Jin Hee (Why Her), Kim Young Min (Queen of Tears), Lee Sung Wook (XO, Kitty), Kwon Seung Woo (Vincenzo), Heo Jun Seok (Dream), Choi Deok Moon (Teach You a Lesson), Kim Jung Young (Business Proposal), Kim Young Ah (My Dearest Nemesis) and Choi Kwang Il (Alchemy of Souls). Interestingly, Doctor X marks Kim Ji Won’s second doctor role after playing Dr. Yoon Myungjoo in Descendants of the Sun.
Doctor X is a medical noir centred on Gye Soojeong aka Doctor X (Kim Ji Won), a genius surgeon and dark hero who is the definition of a true doctor through pure skill alone, operating in a corruption-ridden establishment. Dispatched by a doctor-for-hire agency, Soojeong uses her unmatched skills to single-handedly dominate the hierarchy of the corrupt Guseo University Hospital. The agency she’s recruited from is led by Jang Heesook (Lee Jung Eun), a clever schemer and money-grubbing snob.
Soojeong works under Director Bu Seungkwon (Son Hyun Joo) at Guseo Hospital, while she becomes a reluctant mentor to Park Taekyung (Kim Woo Seok), the “silver spoon” intern. About the recent table read session, which was attended by Kim Ji Won and the Doctor X cast, the production team commented, “Despite it being their first time working together, the actors’ solid acting skills and engaging character portrayals brought the immersion to its peak during the script reading,” according to Soompi. Doctor X is directed by Lee Jung Rim (As You Stood By), and the script is penned by rising writer Pyeon Seong Geun.
