Ever since comedy legend Miranda Hart brought her iconic sitcom to screens, fans have been desperate to see more.
The series, which ran from 2009 to 2015, followed Hart’s loveable character, who could always be found getting herself into an awkward situation – especially when it came to her love interest, Gary (Tom Ellis).
Now, actor Ellis has given us a ray of hope, revealing that he and his co-star still talk about reviving the show.
“We still text,” he told Radio Times. “I haven’t seen her in person for a few years, but you know we FaceTime and text from time to time, and we talk about whether there should be any more Miranda at some point in the future.”
He added: “If we ever end up revisiting Miranda and Gary and where they are in life, I of course will be on board for it. But I’ll be on board for it because Miranda’s got to a place where she feels she’s been able to write something that’s worthy of revisiting, which is one thing I’ve always loved about her.
“She wrote every episode of that show; it all of it came out of her head. There were times when the BBC tried to help her out with other writers, but it just didn’t work because it was so unique to her voice.
“That’s why there are only 20 episodes of Miranda, but they’re 20 brilliant episodes. We’re talking about it nearly 20 years later, and it’s still iconic – it’s iconic because Miranda resisted the temptation to cash in and do more and more and more of the show.”
While Ellis is now living and working in the US, he’s still reminded of home often – most recently on his new show, CIA, during which he was encouraged to use his own accent after preparing to play an American.
In the FBI spin-off, which is now airing in the UK, Ellis plays Colin Glass, a rule-breaking CIA agent tasked with teaming up with rather more buttoned-up FBI agent, William ‘Bill’ Randall (Nick Gehlfuss).
The series comes from Dick Wolf, a titan of US TV, who made one crucial change when he met Ellis for the first time.

“I was all in, ready to play an American character,” Ellis explained – but things changed when he met Wolf for the first time.
“After about a minute, he was like, ‘Tom, I’ve been talking to you for like five minutes, and we gotta make your character British. It’s so damn charming.'”
He added: “It kind of is the perfect cover – they actually do have some British operatives in the CIA – but they wanted me to just be to bring that to the show because they thought it would just be a kind of new, interesting dynamic.”
