A student at Auckland’s Orewa College has been found to have whooping cough.
The school told families on Thursday after it was notified of the case by the Public Health Nurse.
“There is a small chance students/staff may have whooping cough if they have been near this infectious person. While the risk is low, please watch for whooping cough symptoms in your child,” Orewa College said in an email to families.
“This is especially important if you have a baby under 12 months in your household.”
Health NZ says the symptoms of whooping cough usually appear around one week after infection and the first signs of it are usually in the first 5 to 10 days, when people are most infectious.
