Jane’s post was inundated with comments from fellow Mrs Hinch fans, but the most suggested solution was overwhelming: use a dehumidifier.
Trish Algar said: “Last year, I bought a Meaco dehumidifier. It’s just fab. Only use the tumble dryer for sheets and towels.”
Linda Sweeney replied: “Dehumidifier, wish I had bought one years ago for drying the washing.”
Carol Bayliss commented: “I bought a dehumidifier after reading about them on here’ it works really well.
“Give the washing an extra spin on the highest spin speed, place items on my two clothes horses in the spare bedroom, and don’t overcrowd.
“Put the dehumidifier on and close the door, washing is dry in about six hours and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. I do have a tumble dryer but only use it for underwear and towels.”
Ann-Marie Pearce wrote: “I have a dehumidifier with Laundry Mode. It’s fabulous. Some items are dry in less than an hour.
“I like to hang laundry outside when the weather is good, but for indoor drying, this is brilliant. I’d never be without one now. I don’t have space for a tumble dryer.”
According to Ideal Home, dehumidifiers dry clothes in four to five hours, but this will vary depending on the laundry items, the type of dehumidifier you own, how ventilated the room is, and the temperature.
Some dehumidifiers have a ‘laundry mode’ designed to maximise moisture removal from the air and help dry clothes indoors.
This mode can speed up the drying process by circulating air faster and running at a higher extraction rate.
Meaco’s 20L Low Energy Platinum Dehumidifier and Air Purifier includes a laundry mode and is approved by the Good Housekeeping Institute. It retails for £228.90 from Meaco and £239.95 from B&Q.
Meaco 12L Low Energy Platinum Dehumidifier is slightly smaller and also has a laundry mode. It retails for £180 at Argos.
However, one person who bought the 12L Meaco dehumidifier from Meaco’s website claimed it didn’t “make any real difference” and were “disappointed” by its performance.
Tesco’s Pro Breeze 20L Premium Dehumidifier with Special Laundry Mode retails for £209.99 and has been awarded the Which? Best Buy for Dehumidifiers.
Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans were to use a heated airer, a tumble dryer and to give clothes an extra spin in the washing machine.
