Lotto results: Two players win $5m each in tonight’s ‘must be won’ draw

  • September 12, 2026

One Strike player has won $200,000 with Strike Four.

Twenty-eight other Lotto players have won $13,353 each with Lotto Second Division.

Tonight was the final draw before major changes to Powerball take effect.

The numbers were 4, 38, 26, 40, 3, and 29. The Bonus Ball was 27 and the Powerball was 7.

Four First Division players split $1 million on Wednesday night, while seven players won $29,673 each with Second Division.

The previous Saturday’s draw delivered a life-changing Father’s Day surprise for one Gisborne ticket holder, who won $28.25 million.

Tonight’s “must be won” jackpot is unique in that it is only $10m. Under normal Powerball rules must-win draws are triggered when the pot reaches $50m.

If there are no Powerball first division winners the money rolls down the divisions until a winner or winners are found.

It also comes ahead of a huge overhaul of Lotto’s Powerball game, with changes taking effect in next week’s Wednesday draw.

Powerballs increase from 10 to 14, meaning bigger prizes but harder odds.

MyLotto will shut down this evening to prepare for the change, and Lotto NZ warned players to plan ahead if they wanted to check theirPowerball ticket after the draw.

Lotto NZ head of corporate communications Will Hine said, “as soon as ticket sales close at 7.30pm tonight we’ll be swinging into action to update MyLotto overnight so it’s ready for players to buy tickets for 14-ball Powerball from tomorrow”.

“With the ticket checker unavailable, MyLotto players may wish to take a screenshot of their ticket or write down the numbers on a piece of paper before the draw.

“While customers won’t be able to log in to MyLotto, they will be able to visit the website or app after the draw tonight to confirm the numbers that were drawn and prizes across each division and work out whether they are a winner.”

Lotto plans to be back to full functionality – including the ticker checker – tomorrow morning.

Tickets for Wednesday’s first draw of the 14-ball Powerball game will go on sale tomorrow.
