In the moving farewell, Abo was described as someone who is, and will always be, a much-loved part of the Today family.

“On behalf of everyone here … all of us, thank you for giving so much of yourself to this show and for being such a joy to share our mornings with,” said current co-host Sylvia Jeffreys.

“But of course now that joy belongs to beautiful [son] Sonny and [husband] Cyrus… We are all going to miss you, Sez and we absolutely adore you.”

The farewell message was followed with a highlight reel of Abo’s best moments over the past few years, in a celebration of her time with Nine.

The farewell comes after Abo announced she was leaving the program on Wednesday.

“Words can’t express how grateful I am to our viewers for letting me into your homes to be part of your morning routine,” said Abo in an official statement.

“Without you, there is no Today show.”

Abo, who has been a permanent co-host of the Today show since 2023, joined the Nine Network as a reporter for 60 Minutes in 2019.

“Together with 60 Minutes, I’ve spent my time at Nine chasing stories, travelling and reporting from all over the world, interviewing some incredible and inspiring people from all walks of life,” the host continued.

“Becoming a mum has heralded a new chapter and sharing that with our audience has been truly special. As many of you know, this has been a significant journey for my family and will continue to be my greatest achievement.

“I’d like to thank the wider Today team – the amazing crew, incredible producers and my wonderful fellow hosts – you all know how much you mean to me.

“It takes a special kind of crazy to wake up at the hours we do but it’s so much easier when the team feels like family. I’ll miss you all dearly.”

In an Instagram post Abo again thanked the team and the viewers and in regards to her future plans, said “there is more to come”.

Tom Steinfort and Sylvia Jeffreys have been announced as the new hosts of Today, with the news confirmed on Thursday morning.

Sarah Abo officially made her debut as the permanent co-host of the Today show on January 16, 2023.

Her new role was announced by the Nine Network in late November 2022, replacing Allison Langdon who moved over to host A Current Affair.
