Four people are injured, one critically, after a crash involving a campervan and a car on the Lindis Pass this afternoon expected to close the road for several hours.

Emergency services were called to the scene on State Highway 8 between Cluden Creek Rd and Phillips Rd at around 3.05pm on Friday.

Hato Hone St John said ambulance officers treated four patients, with two airlifted to Dunedin Public Hospital — one in a critical condition and one in a serious condition.

Two others in a moderate condition were transported by road ambulance to Dunstan Hospital.

NZTA extended the road closure at 4.15pm to cover between Omarama and Tarras.

“At the crash site, road users should follow the directions of emergency services; otherwise, people are encouraged to delay their travel or to take an alternative route.”

Police said the closure was expected to last several hours as the serious crash unit attends.
