McLeod’s Daughters reboot announced with new cast yet to be revealed

A brief teaser unveiled alongside the announcement showed a lone horse rider crossing the outback as a narrator described it as “a place you remember”, hinting at a return to the familiar landscape that made the show a cultural phenomenon.

McLeod’s Daughters evolved from a successful 1996 telemovie before becoming a ratings powerhouse for Channel Nine. The series was broadcast in more than 100 countries and attracted a devoted international fan base.

Simmone Mackinnon, who played Stevie Hall, previously reflected on the show’s emotional farewell in 2009, telling Nine she would happily have continued for several more years. “I didn’t want the show to end, to be honest,” she said. “I could have stayed on the show for another five years.”

The series finale brought together past and present characters for a final ride around Drovers Run, ending one of Australian television’s most successful dramas, Nine reported.

Throughout its run, McLeod’s Daughters received 41 Logie Award nominations and won eight, including Most Popular Australian Programme in 2004.

Earlier this year, it was voted the sixth greatest Australian television show of all time in a countdown celebrating 70 years of Australian TV, news.com.au reported.
