Bush herself may be absent, but her music, mythology and devoted fish people (aka her fans) will be very much present.

The award-winning cabaret An Evening Without Kate Bush returns to Arts Centre Melbourne this October, diving headfirst into the strange, theatrical and wonderfully eccentric world surrounding one of pop’s most influential artists.

Performed by Sarah-Louise Young, the 75-minute show is filled with Kate Bush classics including Running Up That Hill, Cloudbusting and The Man With the Child in his Eyes, alongside unexpected B-sides and bootlegs, plus inventive interpretations of This Woman’s Work and Babooshka. Young’s performance draws as much from Bush’s famously devoted fanbase as it does from the songs themselves, inviting audiences to release their inner Bush.

Maybe you’ve been one of the fish people, as Bush’s fans call themselves, since Wuthering Heights topped the charts in 1978, when Kate Bush became the first female artist to have an entirely self-written number one in the UK. Or maybe you discovered her through Stranger Things. Either way, An Evening Without Kate Bush is a celebration of the artist’s enduring mythology and the people who keep it alive.

Created by Young and Russell Lucas, the production has toured extensively across the UK and Australia, winning the Best Cabaret Award at Adelaide Fringe in 2025, with sold-out runs at Edinburgh Fringe and London’s Soho Theatre. Now it’s back at the Fairfax Studio from October 13 to 18. Book your tickets here.
