Society Insider: Multimillionaire tech investor and former media exec wed at the Northern Club

“Work, kids and life got in the way for nine years since our engagement, so it was nice to finally deliver on that promise.”

Boyle and Tanner have dated for more than 15 years, got engaged in Palm Springs in 2017 and had children – Maisy, now 7, and Billy, 6.

Boyle’s work with Whip Around meant he regularly travelled internationally. Since the sale, Boyle and Colley have exited their operational roles, while former All White Noah Hickey remains chief executive, based in the United States, and is believed to retain a stake.

So what does a multimillionaire’s Northern Club wedding for 180 guests look like?

The newlyweds tell Society Insider their children were their bridal party and that the wedding was a party to celebrate the friends and family who have been part of their relationship.

“It was the most incredible day; we loved every moment and element,” says Tanner.

“We wanted a fun party, and that’s what we had with all our favourite people.”

The wedding was styled and planned by Erin Coldham of Wonder Events, who called in specialist La Lumiere to veil the chairs in chiffon, and elegantly drape the room. The abundant white florals were by Michele Coomey, who also dressed the Northern Club for Hartfield Jewellers’ owner Jodie Dick’s 50th birthday last year.

Tanner got ready at her mother’s house with her close girlfriends, who were pampered by makeup artist Alexandra Stanworth of Beauty By Alexandra and wedding hair stylist Amanda Preston. Her first dress of the day was a vintage ivory champagne satin gown with a cape, found at Love James Vintage Bridal on Karangahape Rd.

Boyle wore a black Working Style tuxedo.

The ceremony was in the club’s Wintergarden, with music from celebrated saxophonist Nathan Haines and his father, leading jazz bassist Kevin Haines.

The cocktail reception was on the club’s lower level at Bankside Bar & Lounge, where the bride arrived in her second dress, a custom Vivienne Westwood mini. Similar dresses sell on average for $10,000.

A lighting installation by Auckland visual artist Holly Schroder set the mood, with her work on fabric screens hanging from the ceiling. Among the canapes and cocktails, a martini trolley proved the most popular.

Guests included uber-wealthy property, tech and finance movers and shakers about town, as well as several successful entrepreneurs from the food and lifestyle scene. They helped celebrate the couple by adding specially created white “The Boyles” caps to their black-tie suits and gowns, dancing to music from Nathan Haines and his wife, DJ Jaimie Webster Haines late into the evening.

As the party wound down around midnight, guests headed to A-list hotspot Kemuri Hi-Fi beneath Queen St to keep celebrating into the early hours.
