Peter Gabriel has announced his new studio album, o\i, set for release on November 27, 2026, alongside new track “Face the Wall”. The 13-track record is the follow-up to 2023’s i/o and completes what Gabriel describes as a 25-song joint project across the two albums.

“This record has been more of a marathon than a sprint,” Gabriel says. “It’s the longest album I have ever put out with 13 tracks that complete the i/o / o\i 25 track joint project.”

Like i/o, the new album has been released piece by piece through Gabriel’s monthly full moon schedule, with “Face the Wall” now available in its Dark-Side Mix.

o\i continues many of the themes explored on i/o, including humanity’s relationship with nature, the passing of time, technology and our place in the world.

Gabriel said:

“The songs are a mix of thoughts and feelings. I have been thinking about the future and how we might respond to it. We are sliding into a period of transition like no other, most likely triggered in three waves; AI, quantum computing and the brain computer interface.”

He added:

“We are something else, a part of nature, a part of everything and when we feel that connection, shake our booty and give and receive a little love, it can help us find our proper place – and put a big smile on our faces.”

Written and produced by Gabriel, o\i was recorded primarily at Real World Studios and his home studio. As with much of his catalogue, the album combines recently written material with songs that have taken years, and in some cases decades, to reach completion.

Long-standing collaborators David Rhodes, Tony Levin and Manu Katché appear across the record, alongside members of the i/o touring band including Richard Evans, Josh Shpak and Don E.

The album also features contributions from the New Blood Orchestra, led by John Metcalfe, the Soweto Gospel Choir and Swedish all-male choir Oprhei Drängar, as well as Mike Elizondo, Brian Eno, Leo Nocentelli, Tony Berg, Abe Rounds, Tom Cawley, Paolo Fresu, Linnea Olsson and Evan Smith. Gabriel’s daughter Melanie also contributes vocals.

All 13 songs will be available in two stereo versions: a Bright-Side Mix by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent and a Dark-Side Mix by Tchad Blake, with the exception of “Who Are We Talking To?”, which was mixed by Mike Elizondo.

Both versions will be included in the 4CD edition, while the Bright-Side and Dark-Side mixes will also be available separately as double vinyl albums.

A digital-only Dolby Atmos In-Side Mix has once again been created by Hans-Martin Buff.

Gabriel has also continued the visual art collaboration that accompanied i/o, inviting a different artist to create work for each song. Contributors include Janaina Mello Landini, Tomás Saraceno, Judy Chicago, Tatsuo Miyajima, Shirin Neshat, Juan Genovés, Roelof Louw, David Altmejd, Fracis Alÿs, Tadashi Kawamata, Berndnaut Smilde, Tishan Hsu and Michal Rovner.
