Jack Doohan has ended up becoming the forgotten man from the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Some Formula 1 seasons are dominated by mid-season driver changes, but this year, only one swap has resulted in a driver falling off the grid.
Alpine decided after six races that they had not seen enough from Jack Doohan to justify his place in the team alongside Pierre Gasly.
A huge crash in practice at the Japanese Grand Prix ended up putting further pressure on the Australian before he was taken out on the opening lap in Miami.
That turned out to be his final appearance for the French team before he was replaced by former Williams driver Franco Colapinto.

There were suggestions that Doohan would return to F1 later in the season due to a clause in his contract.
However, Colapinto is expected to see out the rest of the season, despite failing to score a point in the drivers’ championship this year.
Colapinto is in a head-to-head battle with Paul Aron for Alpine’s second seat in 2026, meaning Doohan needs to look elsewhere to progress his Formula 1 career.
Journalist Chris Medland believes that Doohan’s camp are now exploring a potential move to Haas ahead of next year.

Medland was speaking on the Pit Pass F1 podcast during the Singapore Grand Prix, and discussing Doohan’s future, he said: “For a driver who made it to F1 this year and is no longer racing, Jack Doohan has been linked with a move to Haas, potentially.
“Now, word in the paddock that I got today was actually a potential link to Toyota, so maybe some Super Formula tie-up and a bit of running in Japan to get him race sharp again, and just for Doohan to be racing.
“He wants to be racing, he’s not been in an F1 car since Miami, and he wants to be out on track again.
“But that would also then be partnered up with a reserve role at Haas and some TPC running, that would just kind of keep him in the loop if there was any reserve driver needed, and strengthen the pool of drivers available there.
“Mick Doohan was down talking to Ayao Komatsu for a long spell this afternoon. I observed that one, and he’s been down there a couple of times this weekend.
“I think the Doohan camp is shopping around, trying to find options because it doesn’t look like the door is going to re-open at Alpine, and Jack Doohan had been hoping that an opportunity for him later this season, if things didn’t go well for Franco Colapinto.
“But it appears Alpine are going to stick with Colapinto until the end of the year, and we’ll see what happens with the race seat there.
“But clearly, Doohan doesn’t think that race seat is coming back his way, so he is looking at other options.”

Would switching to Haas from Alpine be a good move for Jack Doohan?
The short answer is yes, especially considering what Alpine chief Flavio Briatore has been saying since Doohan was jettisoned from his race seat ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Colapinto is increasingly likely to be retained for 2026, and the internal hype surrounding Aron means that the Estonian is going to be Alpine’s go-to driver if the 22-year-old doesn’t score points soon.

As Medland explained, Haas’s partnership with Toyota could open up plenty of opportunities for Doohan.
Not only that, but Oliver Bearman could return to Ferrari in 2027, with Charles Leclerc questioning his long-term Ferrari future, and Lewis Hamilton not confirmed for that season yet.
On top of this, Esteban Ocon hasn’t been in brilliant form since the start of the season, and Doohan would give Haas a driver with Formula 1 experience who can put pressure on their existing line-up.
