An argument between two Dunedin women in a carpark spiralled into one of them allegedly trying to run the other over multiple times.
The pair were at Woolworths Central Dunedin together on Thursday about 11.30am when an argument broke out, Constable Eli Stafford-Rogers said.
One of the women got into the car while the argument continued and attempted to drive off.
When the other woman stood in front of the car the driver allegedly drove into her.
The victim ended up on the car’s bonnet.
The driver then accelerated and braked sharply, multiple times, causing the other woman to fall off the car.
She sustained injuries to her legs, back and tailbone, Const Stafford-Rogers said.
While she was on the ground, the driver then allegedly accelerated towards her, but she was able to dodge the oncoming car.
The driver then sped from the scene.
The mother of the victim said the car used in the attack belonged to her daughter.
She alleged the friend that had driven her daughter to the supermarket took the car keys and stole the car “not only running my daughter over, but also almost running over other members of the public in the immediate area”.
The car was still missing and she asked if anyone spotted the red Suzuki Swift, number plate FWN937, to contact police.
“Several members of the public witnessed the incident, including an off-duty police detective,” Const Stafford-Rogers said.
“Police are also aware of video footage and we have identified the offender.”
