South Africa’s beloved Ndlovu Youth Choir has experienced another career highlight – rocking a London stage with the remaining members of legendary rock band Queen!
What makes this even more remarkable is that the Choir performed their own isiZulu version of Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen’s rock anthem from the 70s.
“It was a dream come true”, they wrote in a post on social media, after sharing the stage at the Roundhouse with Roger Taylor and Brian May.
“You were a joy! Thank you”, posted Taylor in turn.
The Ndlovu Youth Choir captured international attention when they released the first-ever translation of the iconic Queen song a year ago.
Instead of going the usual route of sending a basic demo for approval from May and Taylor, the Choir took a risk with a fully produced video of the isiZulu ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
Artistic director Ralf Schmitt said at the time that taking one of the most complex songs ever written and infusing it with the diverse musical genres of Africa has been the most challenging project he’s ever undertaken – and the most rewarding.
The Choir has also confirmed that they will be collaborating with Roger Taylor on his new album!
“What began with our release of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen has blossomed into a collaboration on his new album, and now a live performance together.”
“What a beautiful journey it has been”, they wrote.
