Junior Amone will get a golden opportunity to make a case for an NRL recall, after the former Dragons star was selected in Tonga’s World Cup squad.

The 24-year-old hasn’t played in the top grade for the past three seasons after he was found guilty on assault charges and had his contract deregistered.

Amone has since returned to reserve grade level, playing for Wynnum-Manly in the Queensland Cup competition, starring in the second-half of the season, but the NRL would have to green-light any contract before his return.

The five-eighth played three games at the 2022 World Cup as a teenager.

His selection in Kristian Woolf’s 24-man squad is the latest step for the exiled playmaker to get back to the NRL, with the talented Amone firmly in the mix to partner Dolphins superstar Isaiya Katoa in the halves.

Elsewhere, boom rookie Francis Manuleleua has bolted into the Samoa squad for the tournament, joining a star-studded group that also includes Stephen Crichton, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Brian To’o, Jarome Luai and Spencer Leniu.

England have also unveiled their squad for the World Cup, with premiership-winning Roosters duo Victor Radley and Hugo Savala both included.

Knights prop Jacob Saifiti will be available to play for Fiji after serving a four-game suspension through the NRL finals series, with Tigers captain Api Koroisau and Dolphins utility Kurt Donoghoe the other big names in the Bati squad.

Here’s all the squads so far for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.
