Triple Eight beats BJR in Pit Stop Challenge at Bathurst 1000 Triple Eight celebrates winning the Pirtek Pit Stop Challenge.

Matt Stone Racing and Brad Jones Racing went head-to-head in the first semi-final with the Jack Le Brocq Camaro and Andre Heimgartner Supra respectively.

Heimgartner got the jump over Le Brocq and maintained that advantage through to the finish line.

The second semi-final pitted Aaron Cameron’s Blanchard Racing Team Mustang against Broc Feeney’s Triple Eight Race Engineering Mustang.

The two cars were evenly matched leaving the start line. Feeney ran long in his box but Cameron’s pit stop was slow.

Feeney was dropped first and crossed the finish line well clear of Cameron, who stalled when his car was dropped.

In the final, Heimgartner and Feeney were almost inseparable leaving the start line. However, Heimgartner ran long in his pit bay, which proved the difference.

“Don’t interview me, these are the superstars,” said Feeney, pointing at his pit crew.

“I’ve never been so excited to win. I’m so nervous. I was shaking, I was sweating.

“These are the boys, don’t worry about me. They’ve done a great job.

“We just know how proud they are. They put in so much effort into this.

“It was a shame to miss out last year because our guys are so fast. We actually do four tyre stops all the time.

“Our times even to make it into this are really awesome.

“They’re training so much, nearly every day. They take so much pride in this. We’re chuffed.

“They [BJR] got to go to America from winning this last time, so hopefully we’re off again.

“Great reward for them.”

In doing so, Triple Eight denied Brad Jones Racing a seventh Pit Stop Challenge title.

Triple Eight team manager Mark Dutton hailed the efforts of the pit stop crew.

“You would not believe how hard they work,” said Dutton.

“We get to work early and you’ll often hear rattle guns going before six in the morning.

“The work starts the second they’re there, cracking out pit stop practice.

“They’re so devoted, so proud.”

Supercars practice gets underway on Thursday at 1:30pm AEDT.
