The K-pop band BTS is used to drawing massive crowds. Now that pull is shifting to a new domain: the art museum world. SF Gate calls member Kim Nam-joon, known by fans as RM, “one of Korea’s most famous art patrons.” NPR reports the the 32-year-old is now showing the personal collection he’s amassed over nearly a decade at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. “RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me” opened Saturday to several sold-out days, with some fans saying it marks their very first trip to an art museum.

Curated with SFMOMA staff, the exhibition of roughly 200 works—three-quarters are from RM’s collection, with SFMOMA pieces interspersed—leans heavily on Korean artists and themes RM says still “have something to tell us” in 2026. Fans are treating the show as a window into his mind, parsing everything from his fixation on the color umber to a cluster of seven carved ducks. “That has to allude to BTS somehow because of the seven members, right?” asks one fan. NPR notes that some of his songs tie back to the art on display, among them, “Yun,” about the 20th-century abstract artist Yun Hyong-keun.
