Charlie Mulaney, a seventh grader in Anchorage, is combining entrepreneurship and community service by offering free lawn care and sharing his work on a YouTube channel.
When he’s not at school, reading, or playing sports like basketball and cross golf, Charlie spends his extra time helping his community and building his business.
“I decided to go into a neighborhood and just cut lawns for free that were overgrown, and use my gear to give back to the community when I had extra time,” Charlie said.
Charlie runs a home and lawn care business, but creating videos for his YouTube channel has become a fun and satisfying hobby.
“I’ve seen some other channels. And so I’m like, well, why don’t I start with myself,” he said.
Charlie launched his first videos in July and enjoys seeing the transformation of overgrown lawns. His father, Greg, finds Charlie’s efforts inspiring and rewarding to watch.
“It’s therapeutic just to watch, you know, those lines be cutting the grass or, you know, to see him power wash the front porch there. But more importantly, it’s we’ve been given a lot, and it’s great to see him want to give back,” Greg said. “It’s just been really cool to see how proud he is of himself and, you know, for that, I’m proud of him.”
Charlie’s work has also taught him an important life lesson: “I’ve learned just to be kind, and maybe people will give back to you.”
