Carter’s likely unavailability was suggested by All Blacks coach Dave Rennie after the win at Eden Park
“It didn’t look good, a hip-drop type tackle and landed on his back, so it’s his ankle,” he said.
“I haven’t had a chance to talk to the doc yet, but it seemed reasonably serious. I’m sure it’s not intentional, but that’s the way the game is going.”
Loose forward Ethan Blackadder injured his calf during the match warm-up and lock Jamie Hannah will join the squad in his absence.
The four injury-replacement players will travel to Sydney today with the rest of the All Blacks squad.
While Scott Barrett also ended the test under an injury cloud, having left the game late and failing an HIA, he was cleared to travel with the team to Sydney.
Carter, Aumua, Segner and Blackadder join an already lengthy casualty ward that includes Ardie Savea, Luke Jacobson, Ruben Love, Richie Mo’unga and Caleb Clarke, among others.
