Michigan radio veteran Michelle McKormick is joining iHeartMedia to host mornings on classic hits “Big 101.3” WBFX Grand Rapids and classic rock “Rock 101.7” WMRR Muskegon Heights, returning to the airwaves in her hometown less than two months after departing Cumulus Media’s WLAV Grand Rapids.
A Grand Rapids native McKormick will debut on both stations Monday, Oct. 19, following a 15-year run on mornings at WLAV that ended in August.
McKormick got her first on-air job, at Grand Rapids’ WGRD-FM, while still attending Central Michigan University. Over the years she also worked locally at news/talk WOOD-AM and WJRW-AM, with time spent outside the market at then-talk station “FM Talk 97.1” WKRK-FM Detroit and “New Jersey 101.5” WKXW Trenton, NJ.
iHeartMedia Regional President Tim Feagan called McKormick one of the most recognizable and beloved voices in West Michigan radio.
“Her authenticity, passion for the community, and ability to connect with listeners every morning made her a natural fit for Big 101.3 and WMRR,” Feagan said. “We’re thrilled to welcome her to the team.”
“I’m so excited to be back on the air in my hometown and to join the iHeartMedia team,” McKormick said. “West Michigan listeners have been incredible to me for decades, and I can’t wait to wake them up again every morning on Big 101.3 and WMRR. This feels like the right next chapter.”
