Despite an agent change which worried Broncos fans, Brisbane are expected to re-sign versatile forward Xavier Willison to a huge extension in the coming weeks.

Willison ditched his former manager to join forces with Ahmad Merhi, who is the agent of Souths-bound Payne Haas.

The shock agent switch led to speculation that Willison could be following Haas out the door, but according to CODE Sports, that isn’t the case, with Willison verbally indicating to the Broncos that he plans to stay put.

It’s expected Willison, who is contracted until the end of next season, won’t sign on the dotted line before the free agency window opens on November 1, but Broncos brass don’t believe the 24-year-old and his team will negotiate with rival clubs.

Willison and the Broncos have reportedly discussed a three to four year deal worth nearly $4 million.

Last month, Willison claimed the Paul Morgan Medal for Brisbane’s player of the year, ending years of Haas dominance.

With Haas leaving, Willison will headline a forward pack alongside captain Pat Carrigan and flashy new acquisition Mitch Barnett.

Willison’s stellar form this season earned him selection in a stacked NZ squad for the World Cup, which starts this Thursday night when the Kiwis take on Australia.

Willison made his Test debut for the Kiwis last year in the Pacific Championships.

“I never thought that I would be here (in a World Cup),” Willison told CODE Sports.

“Just to be looking around at the people in the room, it’s pretty surreal.

“We’ve got lots of high-calibre players, some played in the grand final the other weekend, and some have won four or three premierships at Penrith.

“I’ve definitely got a very good spot to learn off for me.”

SYDNEY CLUB CIRCLING NEW TEST FLYER

The Dragons are reportedly set to make a big play to lure Jack Bostock back to the club if the Dolphins fail in their bid to re-sign the Kangaroos and Blues star.

The 24-year-old enjoyed his best season to date in 2026, shifting to the centres before earning his Origin debut and a call-up to Kevin Walters’ Australian squad.

The rising star is named to make his Test debut on Thursday night, being named on the wing to face New Zealand in the World Cup opener.

According to the SMH, Dragons powerbrokers are on the hunt for a marquee outside backs signing for 2028 and Bostock reportedly sits atop their hit list should he join the open market come November 1.

The Dolphins are said to be desperate to retain their star flyer that came through the ranks with the Illawarra Steelers, but are set for a potential salary cap headache with Herbie Farnworth also coming off-contract.

Both players are set for a huge contract upgrade, with the Roosters reportedly set to make a big play to recruit the English international.

The Red V are set to have funds to play with in 2028, with the likes of Clint Gutherson, Valentine Holmes, Moses Suli and Kyle Flanagan likely to depart the club.

The Dragons have already signed a host of new faces with Keaon Koloamatangi, Scott Drinkwater, Connor Watson, Luke Metcalf and Kodi Nikorima arriving next season.

Bostock could be their next marquee recruit, if the Dolphins are unable to get a new deal done with their representative star.

“It’s still getting figured out now with my manager and the Dolphins,” he said.

“Obviously being in here [Kangaroos camp] doesn’t help the cause, but my manager’s on to it all, so whatever happens we’ll finalise soon.”

Bostock was also quizzed on whether he has a desire to remain in Brisbane, having come through the Dragons’ junior ranks as a local talent.

“I’m not too sure just yet, but I definitely do want to chat to the Dolphins and get that all rolling,” he said.
