CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The U.S. Navy brought a mobile mixed-reality experience called Strike Group to Winton Woods High School, giving students a look at real-world Navy jobs.

The Navy is looking for students for careers in STEM work. The Navy is also offering a $180,000 ROTC scholarship.

A fully immersive experience

The experience is fully immersive. It turns technology into what the Navy describes as real-life warfighting for students who like gaming.

The experience gives students a hands-on look at teamwork, technical skills and problem-solving skills needed for a career in the Navy.

Three interactive challenges

Strike Group includes three interactive challenges and experiences.

The first is called All Hands. Players test their skills on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, teaming up to launch a jet. Participants do everything from loading fuel to flying helicopters to piloting the aircraft itself.

The second challenge lets students try their hands as part of the Navy Underwater Construction Team, which is on call if an undersea repair is needed.

The third component is designed to let students see themselves in hundreds of roles in every field, from nuclear engineering to aviation to special operations.

Students also took a personality quiz to help pair them with a list of Navy roles suited for them. They also received an AI-generated image of themselves in their recommended role.

Recruiting goal surpassed

The Navy has surpassed its 2026 recruiting goal for the year, three months ahead of schedule, with more than 45,000 active duty sailors enlisted.
