An 11-foot metallic object found in a western Minnesota cornfield is being investigated by state and federal agencies.
ALBERTA, Minn — An 11-foot-wide metallic object believed to be debris from space was found in a Minnesota cornfield, prompting a response from state and federal agencies.
The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office said deputies received a call around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday about foreign debris in a cornfield in Scott Township in western Minnesota.
When deputies arrived, they found a large metallic object measuring about 11 feet in diameter. The sheriff’s office described it as “presumably a space object,” but its origin has not been confirmed.
A farmer discovered the object while harvesting the cornfield and estimated it had been there for about six weeks, based on the size of the corn growing beneath it.
Officials also told the station that the object has serial numbers, which could help investigators identify its owner.
The Minnesota Duty Officer was notified, and federal agencies responded. The sheriff’s office said it is working with state and federal agencies to identify the owner and coordinate the object’s removal from the field.
Officials said there is no danger to the public. Further details about the object’s origin and purpose have not been released.
