Rochester, N.Y. — The 17th annual Canstruction Rochester design-build competition has kicked off at The Strong National Museum of Play.

Eleven local teams are set to design and build massive sculptures constructed entirely from canned food.

The sculptures will be on display at The Strong through October 31, where visitors can vote for their favorite in this year’s People’s Choice Award.

This year’s theme, “Oh, the Places You CAN Go,” showcases children’s book-inspired creations such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Winnie the Pooh, The Little Engine That Could, and more.

After the event, all canned goods are donated to help feed those in need across the community.

“The best part at the end of the day is giving back to charity,” said Kevin Pickhardt. “We do a lot for the company, we do a lot for each other, but it’s just a little bit different when you’re doing something for the community, and especially this time of year.”
