The demo for Rustmourne is up on Steam, it is free, and it arrived four days before Steam Next Fest opens. The Rustmourne Team’s own announcement, dated October 15, says “the Rustmourne demo is now live, alongside our brand-new trailer”, and Steam gives the demo listing the same release date.

Both the demo and the full game are tagged VR Only on Steam, so a headset is required and there is no flatscreen mode to fall back on. The store page calls Rustmourne a single-player sci-fi survival horror game “with detailed, VR-designed interactions”, set in the corridors of an ancient, derelict structure where you “hide, run, or cut off their limbs to survive”.
Steam lists English as the only language, with full audio, and both listings carry the Save Anytime tag, which for a horror game decides how much of a run you repeat.

The timing sits just ahead of Next Fest
Steam Next Fest runs from October 19 to 26, according to Valve’s own page for the event, which promises hundreds of demos across the week. That leaves Rustmourne four days on the store before the rest of them go live. The deadline for developers to have a demo ready for this edition fell on September 28, three weeks before the fest itself.
The only earlier way in came with paperwork. In an announcement on October 6 the team was still recruiting for a small closed playtest that required testers to sign a non-disclosure agreement, which meant disclosing their identity and agreeing to confidentiality about what they played, and the same post promised “other chances to give feedback in the near future” to anyone who would rather not. Feedback and bug reports on the demo now go to two threads on the game’s Steam hub, or to its Discord.

The full game still has no date on Steam
The store listing puts Rustmourne’s release at “to be announced” and carries no price. The team has been more specific than that elsewhere: its August 13 update says “the game will release in early 2027”, a window the store page has not picked up in the two months since.
The Rustmourne Team is both developer and publisher, and the project has done well on the numbers Steam makes visible. When the team counted on August 31 it had passed 20,000 wishlists and its second trailer had passed 120,000 views, and neither figure has been updated since. The trailer that came with the demo is the third, after the gameplay trailer the team posted alongside that release window on August 13.
Our June piece on the first trailer described a game that looked like the Dead Space VR adaptation nobody made, and the demo is the first chance to find out how close that gets.
The demo is free on the Steam store now. The full game has no date beyond the team’s own early 2027 window, and no price at all.
