CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office recently announced that, after multiple sightings in Laramie County, a mountain lion was euthanized due to safety precautions.
A social media post from the LCSO says that it received reports of a mountain lion at approximately 5:30, 7:30 and 8:15 a.m. The sightings were reported near 1300 Hackamore Road.
LCSO deputies and Wyoming Game and Fish responded to the area to locate the mountain lion.
The release says that, despite several sightings, deputies were unable to safely capture and relocate the animal.
“It repeatedly crossed property lines, went beneath porches, and moved near children and livestock,” the release states. “With no safe opportunity to contain it, deputies had to euthanize the animal.”
The release notes that deputies were in contact with neighbors in the area, who were notified directly. Because nearby residents had been notified, a broader public notification was not issued at the time.
The release also says that, shortly after the first mountain lion’s capture, a female mountain lion was also reported in the area.
“If you see a mountain lion or signs of one nearby, call 911 immediately,” the release warns. “Deputies will work to involve Wyoming Game and Fish as quickly as possible. Please keep your distance and do not approach or follow the animal.”
