The incident sparked a response from police and animal control.
Webber said she thought it was a joke when she first got a call from security about what happened.
“What we think happened is that the sheep saw itself in the mirrored glass and decided to have a go.
“It lifted furniture and smashed some tables up and ripped up papers and things like that. I think it was inside for about 10-15 minutes.
“Luckily nobody was inside at the time because it caused quite a lot of damage in the building and it could have been pretty nasty.”
Webber said police and council had been searching for the sheep for three days, and is believed to have come from the Aidanfield area.
She estimated the damage to be cost somewhere “in the thousands”, but expects the business to be back up and running on Tuesday with clean-up underway.
“Luckily we’ve got insurance.”
Video later emerged on social media.
“What the dickens?” said Christchurch radio personality Chris “Bondy” Bond, posting his view of the ram raid on Instagram.
“All systems go… There’s a big hole in that window. This ain’t so good – something’s happened.”
A few seconds later, Bond realised what might have happened.
“What the heck? Animal management’s turned up. Has an animal gone through the glass and it’s inside the business?”
He said police “smashed the window further” to get inside the building.
“My gosh – the tension, the drama, it’s all go,” Bond said in the video.
“Oh my gosh, it’s a dog, the poor thing. No – it’s a sheep. What the hell?
“What the heck? What’s a sheep doing on Lincoln Rd… not what you’d expect.”
Police confirmed they were called just before 10am.
“Police received report of a sheep that had run onto the road, then into a building, breaking glass,” said a spokesperson.
“Police captured the sheep and council animal control took the sheep to get treated for minor cuts.”
