Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been spotted driving near the Royal Family’s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk on the same day that Police Scotland has said it had received “information” and a probe is at a “very early stage” into the time the disgraced former Duke of York spent with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell at Balmoral.

It is believed the inquiries are related to claims that women were trafficked to the royal estate, where the Royal Family famously spend summer holidays. Pictures previously released by the Department of Justice in the US appear to show Andrew and Epstein on a shooting trip at Balmoral, suggesting that the late convicted paedophile had been a visitor to the estate.

After the Daily Express exclusively revealed that the probe was in its early days, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We have received information and active inquiries are ongoing, but these are at a very early stage. All inquiries are evidence-led, with the needs of victim survivors at their heart. We would never confirm details of ongoing inquiries, and it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

This is not the only investigation ongoing; there are still investigations into Andrew and his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office. This arrest in February came after allegations that Andrew had shared sensitive information with Epstein when he was a trade envoy for the UK.

At the time of the arrest, Andrew was held in custody for a day, during which he was interviewed before being released under investigation. Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing and accusations against him.

As reported by PA, an email released in the Epstein files last year signed “A” asked disgraced British socialite Maxwell for “inappropriate friends”. In one of four emails sent by someone titled The Invisible Man to Maxwell in August 2001, the sender told the now-convicted sex trafficker their “valet” had recently died and they had “left the RN”.

Andrew left the Royal Navy the month before the email was sent. It has never been clarified if the email was from Andrew.

PA reports that another email from the same individual, dated August 16 2001, said they were at “Balmoral Summer Camp for the Royal Family” before asking Maxwell: “Have you found me some inappropriate friends?”

In March 2002, an email from Maxwell to The Invisible Man said they had passed on a message to an unnamed individual, with that message beginning with: “I just gave Andrew your telephone no.”The message from Maxwell to the unidentified person also said “Andrew” would be “very happy” if he did some “two-legged sightseeing”.

Andrew has always denied accusations, including those made by the late Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre, who said she was trafficked to the former duke at the home of convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.

Giuffre, who died by suicide in April 2025, claimed she slept with Andrew when she was 17. He has always claimed he does not recall meeting her.

He settled a civil suit in the US in 2022 with Giuffre, paying her millions.

Andrew’s car sighting today comes after his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson was spotted out in London yesterday with her daughters to attend a memorial service for Paddy McNally. This was the first time Sarah has been seen in the UK since also appearing in the Epstein Files, with emails showing her close friendship with the late convicted paedophile. She has always expressed regret at his association with Epstein.
