Paul McPadden has been appointed Governance Board chair at KPMG New Zealand.
McPadden has been a KPMG Partner for more than 20 years and brings considerable leadership and governance experience to the role. A senior tax partner, he has served on KPMG New Zealand’s National Governance Board and has held a number of leadership positions across the firm.
These have included more than six years as national managing partner of private enterprise, working with privately owned companies, entrepreneurs, and family businesses. He has also led high-growth service areas across the firm and, more recently, the innovation and growth advisory team in Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland.
Across his roles, McPadden has maintained a strong client focus, with an emphasis on understanding the issues businesses are facing and bringing together the right expertise to help address them.
As Governance Board chair, McPadden will help guide the firm as KPMG and its clients navigate a changing business environment, including the opportunities and challenges presented by emerging technology. He is also focused on creating opportunities for KPMG’s people and supporting the firm’s purpose of fuelling New Zealand’s prosperity.
KPMG New Zealand chief executive Jason Doherty said McPadden’s breadth of experience across the firm and in the market would bring a valuable perspective to the role.
“Paul knows our firm and the New Zealand market extremely well. He brings deep experience from working with a wide range of clients, alongside a genuine curiosity about their businesses and the challenges and opportunities they face.
“Combined with his leadership experience and time on our National Governance Board, Paul brings a broad perspective to the chair role. He understands the importance of keeping KPMG outward-looking and evolving as the needs of our clients, our people and the market change.”
McPadden said clients and people would remain central to his approach: “I’ve always thought our business is fundamentally about our clients and our people.
“I’m looking forward to listening, staying close to the market, and working alongside our partners and teams to deliver great outcomes for our clients and communities.”
