Chris O’Donnell is sharing what Rob Lowe told him ahead of his debut on 9-1-1: Nashville.
O’Donnell, who stars as Captain Don Hart on the latest offering in Ryan Murphy’s 9-1-1 universe, told TVLine in an interview published on Tuesday, Oct. 7 that he got a little advice from Lowe, 61, before things kicked off in the new series.
Lowe notably starred as fire captain Owen Strand on 9-1-1: Lone Star before the series was canceled after five seasons last year. As O’Donnell, 55, has now revealed, Lowe had some great things to say about his experience on the job.
“I got a little bit of feedback from [Lowe] as far as what to expect before I started,” O’Donnell told TVLine. “He loved it. He’s like, ‘I would have done that show forever.’ He was really enjoying it and didn’t want it to end, frankly. He just took real pleasure in it.”

“He’s like, ‘We’d show up to these sets and these crazy emergencies, and we were the guys that got to save the day.’ He’s like, ‘It was just amazing. That’s not something I do in my real life,'” the former NCIS: Los Angeles star added.
O’Donnell also said that fans should expect some familiarity in the new series, which he said features “firenados,” “lightning” and “all sorts” of things. “There have been a couple of times where I’ve read a script and been like, ‘They can’t be serious here,’ ” he added.
O’Donnell plays Hart, a veteran firefighter and former rodeo rider, on the new ABC spinoff, which the network has described as a “high-octane procedural about heroic first responders, as well as their family saga of power and glamour set in one of America’s most diverse and dynamic cities.”

Lowe also previously discussed whether he’d return for more action as Strand, telling Variety last month that he’s “really excited” for the new series. “I love Owen Strand and I love how people miss that character,” Lowe said. “It means a lot to me that the people really related to him and liked him.”
At the time of the interview, however, Lowe revealed he didn’t think “there are any plans” for a return. “I don’t ever rule anything out,” he said.
Back in February, Lowe told PEOPLE he’ll “never say never to anything” when asked about reprising the role after five seasons. “It’s a character that means a lot to me,” he said. “I have such respect and admiration for first responders, and it’s an honor whenever I can bring their stories to the screen, so you never know.”
