7th September 2025 – (Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Observatory has announced that Strong Wind Signal No. 3 will be issued at 2.40am on Sunday, as Tropical Storm Tapah continues to progress steadily west-northwest. The storm’s strong winds are expected to impact the Pearl River Estuary area throughout Sunday. Current forecasts indicate that Tapah will gradually intensify, passing approximately 200 kilometres to the southwest of Hong Kong by Monday morning. However, the storm’s circulation is relatively small. Depending on its intensification rate and proximity to Hong Kong, the Observatory will evaluate the need for higher tropical cyclone warning signals on Sunday night.

Locally, winds are anticipated to strengthen, with showers becoming more frequent. Heavy squally showers and thunderstorms are expected on Monday, along with rough seas and swells. The public is advised to avoid the shoreline and refrain from water sports, as storm surges may lead to flooding in low-lying coastal areas on Monday morning.

Yesterday, an anticyclone influenced southern China, resulting in predominantly fine weather. However, temperatures soared above 35 degrees in many areas, reaching as high as 38 degrees in Sheung Shui. The tropical depression over the northern South China Sea intensified into Tropical Storm Tapah last night and is expected to approach the western coast of Guangdong today, bringing windy conditions and heavy showers.

Mainly cloudy with intermittent showers and thunderstorms. Showers will become more frequent, with heavy rain expected later. Temperatures will range from 27 to 32 degrees Celsius. Seas will be rough with swells, and fresh easterly winds will strengthen, potentially reaching gale force offshore and on higher ground.

Heavy squally showers and thunderstorms are expected on Monday, with windy conditions initially. Showers will continue on Tuesday, easing off later in the week, with very hot weather anticipated.
