Kalyani’s performance as Indian cinema’s first female superhero has been widely celebrated for its emotional depth and commanding screen presence. Samantha, who has herself played strong women in films like ‘Yashoda and The Family Man 2’, expressed admiration for how ‘Lokah’ combines spectacle with a strong narrative centered on female empowerment. “Chandra gave me goosebumps,” she wrote, adding that the film is a milestone for Malayalam cinema.

Directed by debutant filmmaker Vysakh Rajan, Lokah has been lauded for its ambitious world-building, striking visual effects, and for daring to introduce an original superhero rooted in Indian mythology and culture. Industry insiders see Samantha’s endorsement as a significant push that could boost the film’s reach beyond Kerala and into pan-Indian markets.

The film, which has already generated positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, marks a bold step for Malayalam cinema, often known for its realism-driven storytelling. By entering the superhero genre, Lokah expands the possibilities of regional cinema on a national scale. Kalyani Priyadarshan, who trained extensively in martial arts and action choreography for the role, has been credited for her dedication and screen charisma.

Fans flooded social media with celebratory posts after Samantha’s reaction, calling it a “beautiful moment of women supporting women” in an industry often dominated by male superheroes and action stars. Many also pointed out that Samantha herself has carved a reputation for challenging roles, making her praise even more meaningful.

With ‘Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra’ now running successfully in theatres, the film is being seen as a potential franchise starter — and Samantha’s heartfelt words have only added to the buzz.
