Meghan Markle gave a “hidden signal” to her husband, Prince Harry, which made her the true “alpha” of the evening during an awards ceremony where they were honoured for their humanitarian work. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the Project Healthy Minds Gala in New York on Thursday evening, where they received an award for their humanitarian work.
Harry and Meghan looked all loved-up as they arrived on the red carpet holding hands. The couple beamed as they made their way into the main event.
But according to a body language expert, although Harry appeared to be the “alpha” of the evening, it was his wife who actually steered the reins.
Body language expert Judi James told the Mirror of Meghan’s “hidden signal”: “Their hand clasp is relaxed rather than tight and although it’s Harry adopting the more alpha stance, it was Meghan throwing the glances to signal when to move onto the next spot for the cameras.”
Ms James added that the Sussex couple appeared to be in their element at the awards ceremony.
She explained: “This is Harry and Meghan in pared-back, more understated mode to accept their award and do some ongoing campaigning too.
“Their body language is suitably simple too, although their facial expressions suggest some pride in their joint profile and some personal pride from Meghan towards her husband.
“It’s her raised and rounded cheeks that form this look of pride and a sense of self-satisfaction here as she looks up at Harry.”
During the main event, the Duke of Sussex has warned that the impact of social media on children is “one of the most pressing issues of our time”.
Citing that 4,000 families are taking legal action through the Social Media Victims Law Centre, the duke said more needed to be done to protect young people from online dangers.
He said: “Tonight, we are all here together to focus on what remains one of the most pressing issues of our time.”
Meghan added that the couple often discussed how they would protect their own children, six-year-old Archie and Lili, four, as they grow older.
She said: “Like so many parents, we think constantly about how to embrace technology’s benefits while safeguarding against its dangers.”
The couple’s Archewell Foundation announced that its Parents’ Network initiative is joining forces with ParentsTogether, a non-profit organisation dedicated to family advocacy and online safety.
