ForbesNYT Connections Hints Today: Monday, October 13 Clues And Answers (#855)By Kris HoltForbesNYT Connections: Today’s Answers Explained (Monday, October 13, #855)By Kris Holt
Hey there, Connectors! I hope your week’s off to a great start.
This year, I’ve made it a point to make a donation to charity and others in need every month. I’d made donations to good causes here and there throughout my life, but never on a consistent basis until recently.
I’m very fortunate to be in a position where I can take care of my expenses, put some money away for my future and take trips now and again. I never want to take that for granted.
It’s important to help others in need when we can. I hope to keep my regular donations going for as long as possible – and hopefully increase how much I can give each month in the future. I’d encourage everyone reading this to give any time, energy and money they can afford to worthy causes too.
Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Tuesday, October 14 are coming right up.
NYT Connections Hints – How To Play
Connections is a free New York Times daily word game that you can play on the NYT’s website or Games app. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the Connections archive, which includes every previous game.
Connections presents you with a grid of 16 words (sometimes phrases, symbols or numbers). The aim is to arrange them into four groups of four. You don’t know how they hit together or what the category for each group is: that’s what you have to figure out.
There’s only one correct solution and there are often red herrings. You can guess incorrectly three times. A fourth wrong guess, and it’s game over.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to deduce, followed by blue, green and purple. Often, the yellow and green groups have synonyms, the blues have cultural references and the purples have some kind of wordplay involved. But this is not a hard and fast rule. Be ready for curveballs – part of the fun of Connections is in how the NYT shakes things up to keep you on your toes.
As with Wordle and similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends using an emoji-based grid. The game tracks your progress too.
Many players take pride in having long win streaks or getting a reverse rainbow – correctly guessing the purple, blue, green and yellow groups in that order with no mistakes. That adds an extra little challenge.

This is your last chance to look away.
This is your final warning!
Today’s Connections answers are…
🟨 Yellow group — captivate (ABSORB, ENGAGE, HOLD, OCCUPY)🟩 Green group — summary (BRIEF, DIGEST, OUTLINE, REVIEW)🟦 Blue group — halt (CHECK, CURB, STAUNCH, STEM)🟪 Purple group — animals minus starting letter (ANTHER, EASEL, HARK, LAMA)
The first thing I thought of when I saw STEM was that it was an acronym, but I pushed that thought to the side at the outset. The greens were up first for me today. Easy enough synonyms.
The yellows were slightly tricker, as I wouldn’t immediately associate ABSORB with that group. But I figured it was the only other word that made sense after I spotted the other three.
At that point, the blues became clear to me. That left the purples, which I got only by default, for a 228th win in a row. Those refer to pANTHER, wEASEL, sHARK and lLAMA. I’ll be honest, I didn’t know what an eland was until now, but it made good fodder for a hint.
Here’s my grid for today:

Three groups of synonyms and a self-explanatory purple group means I don’t think there’s any real need for an Answers Explained column today. It should be back tomorrow!

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Wednesday’s game if you need them.
P.S. I’m in the mood for something euphoric, something transcendingly uplifting. Primal Scream made a whole album of music like that with 1991’s Screamadelica, and there was no better distillation of that feeling on the record than with the opening track, “Movin On Up.” It’s pure positivity, and I feel like many people could do with a dose of that right now:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
