A man has been arrested, after fleeing through inner-city Auckland.
The 53-year-old faces several driving charges, after speeding through Ponsonby – at times on the wrong side of the road – Inspector Kelly Joyce said.
The police helicopter, police dog unit and road spikes were used, before his vehicle was in stopped in the central city.
Joyce said police were looking for the man, after they attended reports of a family-harm incident about 4.20pm in Mount Albert, but the man who was later arrested had left in his car.
Police found his car in Grey Lynn, but the vehicle did not stop, when signalled.
The helicopter continued to track the driver through Ponsonby.
“The vehicle proceeded to drive dangerously through the busy Ponsonby area, at times on the wrong side of the road and at excessive speed,” Joyce said.
At 5.45pm, police used road spikes in Freemans Bay and the vehicle came to a stop near Victoria Park.
The driver was taken into custody.
He was scheduled to appear in Auckland District Court, facing several driving charges, as well as a charge of injuring with intent to injure, relating to the earlier family harm matter.
