The $20m The Everest at Randwick on Saturday has drawn together a deep field of quality gallopers and here is our form assessment of each of the runners.

There was a field of 12 runners plus four emergencies declared for the 1200m contest.

Here is a runner-by-runner analysis of every horse set to line up on Saturday.

■ ■ ■ ■ ■

1 – KA YING RISING

He’s rated as the world’s best sprinter but now he has to do it in a new environment. No doubting he’s high class, as his dominant performances in Hong Kong have shown, 13 wins in a row over 1200m. Many different views on his Randwick trial performance – mine is he was only average – and will the track be firm enough? Lots of questions but hasn’t he added some interest to the race. All will be answered at 4.16pm on Saturday.

VERDICT: Has the class to win but at odds-on I’m against him.

THE FREAK IS BACK! 😳

Everest-bound Ka Ying Rising toys with his opposition, becoming the first horse to win the HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup twice with @zpurton for David Hayes… 🏆🏆#SeasonOpener | #LoveRacing | #HKracingpic.twitter.com/72fu9dNEE0

2 – BRIASA

His form this year screams “genuine Everest chance”. Stiff in The Galaxy, won the TJ Smith and this prep he was second in The Shorts before winning the Premiere Stakes so outside of The Everest, he’s won Sydney’s two biggest 1200m weight-for-age races. Barrier draw did him no favours.

VERDICT: Form give him each-way claims but will need luck.

Briasa is simply brilliant in the G2 Premiere Stakes, as the TAB Everest beckons! 💫🏔️@G1TySchil@HawkesRacing@aus_turf_clubpic.twitter.com/CWUIVMvDbf

3 – OVERPASS

Tried and true sprinter that has been mixing with the best for a few seasons now. Has twice previously run in the Everest but is yet to place. Resumes here and he is armed with an outstanding fresh record of nine starts for four wins and four seconds. Will go forward from his wide gate.

VERDICT: Class query and father time may have caught up with him.

4 – JIMMYSSTAR

Proven 1400m weight-for-age performance that is going to relish a strongly run race. Booked his place with two excellent autumn performances, fourth in a slowly run TJ Smith before charging home to win the All Aged Stakes (1400m). Building nicely and lands here off a strong finishing second in the Premiere Stakes. Wide draw means he’s likely to go further back than desired.

VERDICT: If they overdo it, he’ll be charging, each-way.

✨ Jimmysstar adds another G1 to his list as he races away with the All Aged Stakes for @cmaherracing and @Brown_ethan8! 🙌@aus_turf_clubpic.twitter.com/Obg9FvV2KC

5 – WAR MACHINE

The new boy on the block that is hard to line up against the better local sprinters. Charged through the grades during the late autumn in Melbourne and the winter in Brisbane, culminating in his Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) win. Returned with a thumping two length success in the Gilgai (1200m) down the Flemington straight with 60kg. Has won his last four, a good second-up record and drawn perfectly.

VERDICT: Expect him to be storming home, can’t rule out.

6 – MAZU

The last horse in to the race and while he’s been racing well, he’s one of the top picks to be the last horse to finish. His three performances this prep have been solid but he’s got no closer than 2¾ lengths. The Bureau Of Meteorology is saying there’s chance of a storm on Friday night – he wants it to dump plenty at Randwick because he’s at his best on wet tracks. Drawn to stalk the speed

VERDICT: I hope he doesn’t get in the way.

Mazu makes it back-to-back TAB Hall Mark Stakes! 👏@PrideRacing | @jamieleekah07 | @aus_turf_clubpic.twitter.com/0jDVdYIYFO

7 – JEDIBEEL

Another with similar form credentials to Mazu, going OK but well below what’s required to be anywhere near the placegetters here. Ran in The Shorts and the Premiere, beaten 4¼ lengths or more in the two races. Drawn in the outside half of the field so expecting him to go back and from there he shouldn’t be getting in the way.

VERDICT: Not up to this.

Jedibeel lets down and WINS the Challenge Stakes! 🏆@BWiddupRacing | @G1TySchilpic.twitter.com/1RRW8SkIdX

8 – ANGEL CAPITAL

One of the X-factor runners in the race, hard to line him up against the proven local sprinters. Resumed having his first start for Chris Waller and he smashed an ordinary class Listed field in the Chautauqua Stakes (1200m) before having no luck in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) – he should have won. He’s two from three at 1200m and drawn to get every chance.

VERDICT: Quality galloper that could be the real surprise packet.

ANGEL CAPITAL 😇

A demolition job first up for this rising star! What heights can he reach this spring?@LaneDamian@cwallerracingpic.twitter.com/pT0hmodp1P

9 – JOLIESTAR

She’s a high-class sprinter that lands here off a first-up win in The Shorts (1100m). Never missed a place second-up in three previous runs, she’s a three-time Group 1 winner, twice over this trip. She was huge in this race last despite finishing out of the placings. Good gate and gets James McDonald.

VERDICT: There’s plenty to like about her chances.

10 – LADY SHENANDOAH

High-class four-year-old mare that was something licked first-up when a close second in the Concorde Stakes (1000m) before they sent her south to run in the Manikato Stakes (1200m) and nothing went her way, wide no cover from the outside barrier and while disappointing, she wasn’t disgraced. Back to Sydney and at a track where she’s three from four and drawn favourably.

VERDICT: Capable of bouncing back hard here.

— SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) September 6, 2025

11 – MAGIC TIME

Another high-class sprinting mare that is a Group 1 winner at this track. She’s five from 10 over 1200m and a two-time Group 1 winner, both over 1400m. She was super resuming when storming home to win the Cockram Stakes (1200m) before a solid third in the Manikato Stakes. Outside barrier has done her no favours.

VERDICT: She’s going to need a mountain of luck from the gate.

12 – TEMPTED

The only three-year-old in the race. This Godolphin filly is yet to win at Group 1 level but she has Group 1 ability every day of the week. Produced a statement win first-up when charging home to score in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) before appearing to fail to see out the 1400m in the Group 1 Golden Rose. Drawn the inside so she’ll do no work and she’s two from two at Randwick.

VERDICT: She could run into the placings.

She’s all class! 🙌

Tempted wins the Run To The Rose and becomes the second filly to do so! @godolphin have won 6 of the last 7 editions! 💪@cmaherracing@Brown_ethan8pic.twitter.com/kV98PbGHnY
