Nick Amato and Annie Lancaster got engaged in the pods after bonding over shared family and religious values – with everything now over for the pair.

Before choosing to get engaged to Annie, Nick had a connection with her and another woman named Kait.

Nick ultimately chose Annie because Kait didn’t support his religious beliefs.

Nick and Annie then got engaged, but have now sadly broken up before the finale after a huge argument.

It all went down at the Pod Squad reunion party in Denver, which happened before he split with Annie.

In the pods, Nick had confessed his love to Kait, with word getting out about this during the reunion.

Annie became insecure and upset after hearing about Nick’s former connection with Kait.

Nick also had a conversation with Kait at the reunion, which did not sit well with Annie.

Nick and Annie’s final and very pivotal argument took place after this reunion, when they were back at their apartment.

Nick then left the experiment after the Pod Squad reunion party.

Annie felt as though Nick did not love her and was not happy.

Nick told Annie that he was happy, but she kept second-guessing things and wanted more reassurance that he truly loved her.

Then, at a brunch after the reunion – and several meltdowns that Annie had, Nick told Annie, “I’ve been really happy with you.

“But honestly… that was a breaking point for me. Getting to the altar, that’s not a happy idea for me.”

Nick then told Annie that he could not go on any longer.

Although Nick’s conversation with Kait was one of the reasons for his breakup with Annie, there was no indication that he wanted to rekindle things with Kait.

His meeting with Kait was an attempt at damage control, but it backfired.

Nick and Annie’s official breakup occurred on screen in Episode 10 of LIB season nine.

The episode was released on Netflix on October 15, 2025.

Earlier on in the season, the luxury watch dealer raised eyebrows with his comments about LGBTQIA+ children while speaking in the pods with his now-ex Annie.

Shortly after, fans expressed their anger on social media over the 29-year-old’s words, prompting Nick to address them in an Instagram video shared on October 3.

Nick said in the clip and its caption that he took “full accountability for how my words came across,” before explaining that the way he was raised “shaped certain blind spots” that he’s now educating himself on.

He also pointed the finger at production’s editing, insisting that the “conversation was very heavily sliced and diced.”
