Corey Munce has opened up on his terrifying ordeal at sea last week when his fishing boat capsized in north Queensland, leaving the horse trainer and seven mates stranded in shark-infested waters.

Munce, who trains in partnership with his dad Chris, was enjoying a short break last week before flying to Melbourne to prepare Payline for Saturday’s Group 1 Moir Stakes at The Valley, in which the gelding finished an impressive fifth as a $51 chance.

Just three days beforehand, the 30-year-old had a near-death experience when a 28-foot fishing boat capsized after being hit by a freak wave south of Cairns.
