Payne Haas and the Broncos could potentially agree on a rich new deal before the November 1 free agency deadline.
That’s according to CODE Sports, who are reporting the superstar prop is set to resist a big-money offer from rebel rugby union competition R360 to stay put in Red Hill.
On the back of his stellar finals series which helped Brisbane break a 19-year premiership drought, re-signing Haas is considered priority No. 1 for the club.

Broncos coach Michael Maguire believes Haas and star forward Pat Carrigan “can create something special here together”.
“I know Payne loves this club,” Maguire told CODE.
“Things will be talked about with contracts but he is entrenched in the Brisbane culture and his performances show how he conducts himself here.
“It’s up to Payne what he does but there is a strong group here that wants to stick together to build a legacy at the Broncos.”
Given several stars are on expensive long-term deals, including Carrigan, Reece Walsh, Ezra Mam and Kotoni Staggs, the Broncos won’t be able to keep everyone.
Players such as Billy Walters, Jesse Arthars and Ben Hunt will all become free agents on November 1 as their current deal expires at the end of next season.
“That’s a challenge for any successful club,” Maguire said in response.
“That will sort itself out. The good thing is we have the majority of our team signed for next year … Players want to play at the Broncos. It is a great club, a special place and a special town.”

RIVAL ‘TO WATCH’ IN RACE FOR WARRIORS SUPERSTAR
The Warriors have reportedly tabled an extension to retain the services of Luke Metcalf, with rivals circling to land the talented playmaker.
According to The Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis, New Zealand powerbrokers have tabled Metcalf a two-year extension, which will see him remain at the club until the end of the 2028 season.
However, the Dragons are “one to watch” in the pursuit for his services, while the Perth Bears have also been linked with his services.
“It’s a big couple of weeks for Luke Metcalf, the Warriors have put an offer to him, a two-year extension,” Carayannis said on Triple M.
“Three more years at the Warriors off the back of an ACL, that has sort of complicated things.
“But I don’t think the injury will put clubs off, you look at the way he started this season. He would have been the only one to challenge James Tedesco for the Dally M by the end of the year.
“The Dragons will be one to watch with him, he’s going to look at a potential desire to return to Sydney, he just had a child and just got married.
“But they love him at the Warriors… it’s going to be hard for him to leave that joint if he does end up going. I think the offer is good, I don’t think it’s going to be a money thing.”
Metcalf won’t sign a new deal until after the November 1 deadline to gauge the interest in his services on the open market.
The Dragons have also previously been rumoured to have made a play to recruit Titans gun Jayden Campbell, but it remains to be seen if they see him as a halfback or fullback.
Metcalf was the form player in the NRL in 2025 and leading the Dally M Medal race before an ACL injury ruined his and the Warriors’ season.
Currently on a deal worth $550,000 Metcalf could double his pay on the open market or drive up his value for his next contract if he stays with the Warriors.
WANTAWAY EELS’ U-TURN
Wantaway Eels star Bailey Simonsson is reportedly set to remain at the club after a sit-down meeting with head coach Jason Ryles.
Simonsson was left disgruntled in August after Dylan Brown was picked ahead of him to feature in the centres, despite departing the club at the season’s end.
The flyer requested permission to negotiate with rival clubs, and his wish was granted after his relationship with Ryles deteriorated.
However, speaking to the SMH, Simonsson revealed a meeting with Ryles has cleared the air and the Eels is the club he wants to play for, with two years remaining on his current deal.
“There were some things away from the field that I wasn’t dealing with very well, injuries and other things in my life that I didn’t really deal with well,” he said.
“I spoke to Rylesy and assured him I wanted to be at the club and put my best foot forward for the club. I do love playing at the Eels, so it was about staying there.
“Obviously, there was that stuff going on where I was able to talk to other clubs. Once I sat down, looked at myself in the mirror, looked at where I’m at, I worked out that I had to do better, work on myself.
“It’s been a tough couple of years, so it’s about getting my body right. It’s about doing well for the club because they have been good to me.
“We had a good chat, and Rylesy spoke about wanting me to be a part of the club. It was a good conversation, I have a lot of time for him, and [I am] appreciative of him for the whole process with the club.”
Simonsson also revealed he prefers to play on the wing, than in the centres, with a spot in the backline potentially opening up.
Zac Lomax has been linked with a lucrative switch to rebel competition R360, and if that move eventuates he would earn a 10-year ban from ARLC competitions.
PANTHERS FLYER TARGETED BY RIVAL
The Panthers could reportedly be set to lose another talented young gun, with the Titans eyeing a play for Jesse McLean.
The brother of Casey, Jesse has only managed four first grade games in three years, stuck behind a log jam of outside backs talent at the foot of the mountain.
According to Code Sports, the 20-year-old could be set to request an early release from his current contract should a rival come knocking for his services.
The Titans could reportedly be that club, with figures within the Gold Coast’s ranks holding the belief McLean could be a consistent NRL player.
McLean is contracted until the end of the 2028 season, the same year his brother also comes off-contract.
The Panthers have already lost another flyer going into the 2026 season, with David Fale signing a two-year deal to join Shane Flanagan’s squad.

PEZET’S NEW SUITOR
There are rumblings that the Broncos could enter the race for sought after free agent halfback Jonah Pezet.
It was reported this week that the race for Pezet’s signature was down to the Cowboys, Eels and Storm but according to Code Sports, those two clubs are now wary that the 2025 premiership winners are looming.
Pezet could end up staying in Melbourne but given that the Storm’s halves situation looks set, the 22-year-old will likely need to head elsewhere to find the opportunity he deserves.
Code Sports have reported that Pezet will make a decision in the next two weeks.
Both the Eels and Cowboys are interested in signing Pezet long-term, but is also open to nabbing the promising half on a loan deal for next year.
At either club, Pezet would form a lethal halves combination with superstars Mitch Moses or Tom Dearden.
The Broncos’ rumoured interest is an intriguing development.
Adam Reynolds is under contract for 2026 but the veteran half had several injury issues this season and was carried off the field in the decider due to a hamstring injury.

Pezet and Broncos five-eighth Ezra Mam could create a formidable halves duo for years to come, however Brisbane do have some salary cap concerns, especially if they end up signing Payne Haas to a mammoth extension as expected.
While he didn’t name the Broncos, Pezet’s agent Braith Anasta said on his BTFU podcast that another team outside of the Eels, Cowboys and Storm have shown interest.
“I’ll say this, the one’s that have been reported – Parramatta, Cowboys and Melbourne – are right. But there’s someone else that you’ll probably find out in the next few days that could surprise a few people,” Anasta said.
