Viking has pre-empted Molly Pepper Steemson’s debut novel, Wanting.

Edward Kirke, commissioning editor at Viking, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Zoë Waldie at Rogers, Coleridge & White. American rights were also pre-empted by Jill Bialosky, executive editor and vice president at WW Norton & Company, from Susan Golomb at Writers House.

The book will publish in physical, audio and e-book formats in 2027.

“Wanting tells the story of a grand house on a remote English beach, visited each September by a select few artists, writers, and musicians,” the synopsis says. “Built into the cliffs with views of the vast Atlantic, it offers inspiration, but also escape: over candlelight and wine, the outside world disappears, and desire begins to blur the edges of art and life.”
