Dolphins superstar Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has pledged his allegiance to Toa Samoa, confirming his intention to represent Samoa at the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.

The 24-year-old is unavailable for the 2025 Pacific Championships due to a knee injury but in a huge boost for Samoa he has committed for the World Cup next October.

Tabuai-Fidow joined the Toa Samoa squad and more than 8000 passionate fans at the Samoa Fan Day in Logan on Tuesday afternoon, where he publicly announced his decision to proudly represent Samoa.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Hamiso into the Toa Samoa family,” said coach Ben Gardiner.

“He’s an incredible talent with representative experience at the highest level.

“Hamiso is eager to contribute to the team’s future success, and we can’t wait to see him wear the blue jersey on the world stage in 2026.”

‘The Hammer’ made his Test debut for Samoa at the 2022 World Cup as a 21-year-old, playing on the wing against England. Sadly he suffered a syndesmosis injury in that match and missed the rest of the tournament.

He went on to represent Australia in six Tests across 2023-24 but he has now committed himself to Samoa and would certainly have been part of Gardiner’s squad for this year’s Pacific Championships had injury not struck him down.

We’re bonded by blood, it’s a different feeling

Samoa already boast eight State of Origin players in the squad to face Tonga XIII on Sunday and the addition of Tabuai-Fidow and injured stars Stephen Crichton and Terrell May will make them a formidable force in 2026.

Samoa prop Terrell May said Tabuai-Fidow’s commitment for RLWC26 was exciting for the future and could help the side go one step further than a loss in the final in 2022.

“I think the squad next year is going to be really strong with Hammer in and a couple of boys that are injured,” May said on Tuesday.

“Samoa’s building something special.”
