THE Monster Mustang of Cam Waters will not run its usual #6 at this weekend’s Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.
Instead, Waters’ Ford will sport #40, in recognition of sponsor Autobarn’s 40th anniversary.
Coincidentally, the use of the #40 is rather fitting on a weekend where the Supercars paddock is mourning the loss of Garry Rogers.
It was aboard a #40 Holden EH 179 that Rogers made his ATCC debut in 1970 at Calder Park.
The digits have appeared in a total of 147 ATCC/Supercars Championship races.
The bulk of those are attached to Cameron McLean, but notably the most recent occasion came at the 2020 Bathurst 1000 on none other than the Garry Rogers Motorsport wildcard of Tyler Everingham and Jayden Ojeda.

Temporary number swaps have been a good omen for Waters in the past, including his second-place finish in a one-off start using #300 at Ipswich in August this year.
He also won with #43 (accompanying a Ken Block tribute livery) at the 2023 Adelaide 500 and took a triple podium with #50 three years ago at Pukekohe.
Speaking of successful number changes, the recent Repco Bathurst 1000 was won by Matt Payne and Garth Tander using the #100. That car returns to its trademark #19 this weekend.
