A teenager has been charged with murder after the fatal stbbing of 15-year-old Kaea Karauria.
Karauria was found critically injured with stab wounds in Onekawa on Alexander Avenue in the early hours of Sunday, 11 May, and died at the scene.
Police are not ruling out further charges as they continue to investigate, Detective Inspector Dave de Lange said.
“What happened to Kaea was devastating, and Police will remain focused on establishing the exact circumstances on what has occurred.
“Kaea deserves justice, and while nothing will undo this terrible act, we hope this arrest can bring a small amount of closure to his family and loved ones.”
Information provided by the public was crucial in piecing together the events of the night, de Lange said.
The teenager will appear in the Napier Youth Court Tuesday, charged with murder.
Police previously charged a 21-year-old woman and another teenager with wilfully attempting to pervert the course of justice in relation to the matter.
