RANDWICK – Greg Polson
TUPAKARA – This Annabel and Rob Archibald-trained filly is still a maiden but she’s Group placed on three occasions including a close third in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes during the autumn. Her effort resuming in the Furious Saturday suggests her days as a maiden are likely sooner rather than later. Tupakara went back from barrier 10, settling towards the back of the field before producing a race best last 400m sectional and it’s worth noting for future reference she can be more forward in the run if she draws a gate. The Tea Rose at Randwick on September 20 looks the perfect upcoming race and she will also be suited in the Group 1 Flight Stakes she sits on the third line of betting at $8. Career statistics (7:0-2-2).

MOONEE VALLEY – Aaron Mills
OAK HILL – I’m convinced he doesn’t love Moonee Valley despite his strong record at the track. Oak Hill only finished 11th in the Moir on Saturday, but it was while settling at the tail and never getting fully clear over the final 300 metres while going to the line with a stack more to offer. That followed some bad luck over the same course two weeks earlier. There’s a benchmark sprint at Caulfield on September 20 which looks a perfect fit for Oak Hill, although we should still respect him if he shows up in something harder, too. Career statistics (16:7-2-0).

DOOMBEN – Graeme Carey
SUNRAYS – She ran into the more seasoned and equally talented Impervious when resuming on Saturday but the Kelly Schweida-trained Sunrays will benefit from the run and quickly hit her straps. Sunrays jumped awkwardly and went forward rather than being caught wide. She sat off the leader Impervious to the home and while she challenged strongly Impervious had the fitness edge to hold her off. Sunrays goes better ridden quietly off the speed, will strip fitter for that run and has shown herself to be capable up to 1500m. Career statistics (7:5-2-0).

MORPHETTVILLE PARKS – Heath Pope
CARTOON GRAVEYARD – Tasmanian visitor that caught the eye on Saturday when conceding an impossible start in a race dominated by the leader and winner Nasho. Despite the race shape being against him, he surged late and was hitting the line strongly through the last 200 metres. He’s a horse that looks best placed over 1400 to 1600 metres. A bigger track and the booking of a senior rider would also aid his cause next time, and if connections remain in South Australia he is poised to be rewarded very soon. Career statistics (22:6-5-2).

BELMONT – Aaron Mills
MISS ESPRIT – This mare showed she was back from a spell in good order with a strong midweek victory and was brave again on Saturday in a race that wasn’t run to suit. Settling much closer than she had in that previous effort, Miss Esprit did the chasing behind a pair of tearaway leaders yet still hit the line gamely as others swooped late. At her peak now and adept in all conditions, Miss Esprit looks capable of snaring a Saturday win soon. Career statistics (13:2-2-3).
