Ram Pothineni is currently in full promotion mode for his upcoming film Andhra King Taluka. While the trailer has generated excitement among his fans, it has also stirred a wave of comparisons with the 2016 psychological thriller Fan starring Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role. The reason—its intriguing tagline, “biopic of a fan,” which instantly sparked parallels. Addressing the chatter head-on, the actor has now offered much-needed clarity on the film’s theme, tone, and emotional core.

“When the tagline of Andhra King Taluka was revealed as ‘biopic of a fan,’ many thought it was a reference to Shah Rukh Khan’s film, Fan. But none of the films which had a fan explored this relationship. Either they have been made a villain or they have explored a friendship,” Ram explained, emphasizing that his film takes a different emotional route.
He further elaborated on the deeper meaning behind the story. “No one explored purely the relationship between a star and a fan, which is one of the most beautiful relationships. And it’s misunderstood by everybody; it’s unconditional love. What is a greater love than doing something for someone who doesn’t know you exist?”
Ram also clarified that Andhra King Taluka does not portray fan culture negatively, unlike the SRK starrer which took a darker psychological turn. He stressed that the film is rooted in emotion and personal identity rather than obsession.
Directed by Mahesh Babu Pachigolla, the film features Ram as a devoted admirer of Kannada star Upendra. Rather than presenting a dual narrative like the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, where the actor played both the superstar and his fan, this film stays grounded in the journey of a true admirer and what devotion means to him.
The film also stars Bhagyashri Borse, Rao Ramesh, Murali Sharma and Rahul Ramakrishna. Andhra King Taluka is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 28.
