You’d imagine RTÉ’s director of radio, Patricia ­Monahan, took an extra few moments looking into the mirror during her ablutions yesterday morning. In the job for nearly a year-and-a-half, this is the day when her new broom swept everything into place.

November is an unlikely time for first-day-of-school vibes, but nonetheless, after a year or two of positional changes and temporary fill-ins, RTE Radio 1’s weekday output finally has a mature, settled look about it.
