Shogun” Season 2 has unveiled its writers, directors and new and returning cast members.

Newcomers for Season 2 include Asami Kizukawa as Aya, Masataka Kubota as Hyūga, Sho Kaneta as Hidenobu, Takaaki Enoki as Lord Ito and Jun Kunimura as Gōda. They join returning stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis, as well as Fumi Nikaidô, Shinnosuke Abe, Hiroto Kanai, Yoriko Dôguchi, Tommy Bastow, Yuko Miyamoto, Eita Okuno and Yuka Kouri.

Season 1 directors Hiromi Kamata (Season 1, Episode 6 “Ladies of the Willow World”) and Takeshi Fukunaga (Season 1, Episode 7, “A Stick of Time”) return to direct on the second season. Anthony Byrne, Kate Herron and series co-creator Justin Marks will also direct episodes in Season 2.

Writers on Season 2 include co-creator Rachel Kondo, Marks, Shannon Goss, Matt Lambert, Maegan Houang, Emily Yoshida, Caillin Puente and Sofie Somoroff.

According to an official logline, “Shogun” Season 2 “is set ten years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.”

“Shogun,” based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name, was created for television by Kondo and Marks and is produced by FX Productions. The pair also serves as executive producers alongside Michaela Clavell, Edward L. McDonnell and Michael De Luca and Sanada. Jarvis is co-executive producer alongside Eriko Miyagawa.

“Shogun” Season 1 broke the record for most Emmy Award wins by a series in a single season with 18 statuettes. Sanada became the first Japanese actor history to win the Emmy for best lead actor in a drama. Anna Sawai was also the first actress of Asain decent to win best lead actress in a drama.
