Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday movie has received a new intriguing update involving one of its fan-favorite heroes. The fifth installment to the blockbuster franchise is slated to premiere in theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, the Doomsday will reportedly feature “another Black Panther” besides Letitia Wright’s Shuri. This is actually in line with a previous rumor claiming that even though the studio would be introducing more Black Panthers down the line, Shuri will “remain the main one for years to come.”
Who is the MCU’s potential next Black Panther?
This new Avengers: Doomsday rumor comes amidst fan speculations about Damson Idris‘ potential casting as the next Black Panther of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Snowfall actor was actually asked about the rumor during a recent event, where he responded with a laugh and an “I don’t know anything about it” answer. Interestingly, he was also recently spotted accompanying Black Panther vet Angela Bassett at the Vogue World: Hollywood event, where the acclaimed actress was dressed as Queen Ramonda.
Avengers: Doomsday is being directed by Avengers: Endgame filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo from a screenplay written by Stephen McFeely. The latest installment will feature the return of Marvel vets Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth, with the Oppenheimer actor set to play a completely different role this time in the form of Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom. The ensemble cast will also include Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Lewis Pullman, Simu Liu, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Danny Ramirez.
The fifth installment will also feature the return of X-Men stars Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Following the movie’s viral casting announcement video, Feige previously confirmed they haven’t revealed the entire cast yet, teasing more casting announcements in the future. Recent casting rumors suggested that Doctor Strange, Deadpool, Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers, and Spider-Man might also appear in Doomsday.
