Rigby Group, trading as RGL Build, has finished the first home marking a big milestone for the wider development.
Landmark Homes has also completed its showhome, making it the only other home to be finished to date in the subdivision.
RGL Build has sold its completed four-bedroom home to a couple who plan to move in at the end of this month.
The new owner, who did not want to be named, said she did not mind being surrounded by construction upon moving in, and was looking forward to watching the subdivision’s progress from the comfort of her new home.
“We live in Greenmeadows and have been watching that subdivision develop and the roads being formed and everything, and really like the look of it.
“We wanted to downsize our home and property, and thought we’d love to be part of Mission Hills. I can see it being a very nice subdivision as it grows,” she said.

“[Construction happening around the home] does not really matter to us.
“It’s a nice, new, warm home with double glazing. And it’s going to be quite exciting to watch the progress of the subdivision. And getting new neighbours is going to be quite exciting as well.”
She said the subdivision’s small supermarket and shopping hub, its elevation from flood risks, and proximity to Taradale and the rest of Napier made it appealing.
She and her husband were looking forward to celebrating Christmas in their new home, which they purchased for an undisclosed amount.
RGL Build owner Adrian Rigby said it was a “pretty cool achievement” to complete the first home, and his next two homes were almost finished.
Rigby said there was a lot to like about Mission Hills.
“It’s a lot different from what we would normally get in Hawke’s Bay for subdivisions – your standard flat paddock that has got no character to it.
“We have the hills, different elevations, and they have put a lot into the walking tracks.”
He said the shopping hub was another appealing aspect, as it was fairly common for new subdivisions not to add new services and just rely on existing shops nearby.
“Following Cyclone Gabrielle, Mission Hills is also giving people a great option to move to higher ground.”
Rigby said there had been a huge number of people coming through the subdivision to have a look, and it was not unusual to see 20 or 30 cars a day driving through.
“Everyone is getting inquiries and there are a lot of sections being purchased,” he said.
He said he had a great team of contractors that had worked with him, and he had another six homes lined up to build in future within the subdivision.
While Mission Hills’ size could see it become its own suburb in future, at this stage Napier City Council is deeming it a subdivision.
About 95 sections have sold to date, and titles have so far been issued for 122 sections.
